[posted on behalf of CRON4healthyfuture]
The actual length of the telomeres, assesed in blood cells, may not be such a great indicator of remaining longevity if this study is to believed.
The telomere studies in humans tend to fixate on blood cells, which are convenient but may not tell the whole story.

"CONCLUSION:: This longitudinal study of the elderly and oldest old does not support the hypothesis that telomere length is a predictor for remaining lifespan once age is controlled for."
