Sunflower oil increases mitochondrial deletions relative to Olive oil

Boo-hoo.

What is interesting to me is that olive oil has previously NOT been found to increase lifespan. One could suggest, but of course not prove, that factors that reduce mitochondrial deletions may not produce substantial increases in lifespan.

But, this result may be somewhat "meaningless", as watching a tissue like the liver that constantly "renews and regenerates" in terms of mitochondrial lesions may not be that informative into more "consequential" lesions.

"An aging-related increase in the relative amount of the deletion was observed for both dietary groups, being higher in animals fed sunflower oil. Oxidative stress was lower in virgin olive oil-fed animals. " - PMID: 16510854
