It is well-established that mTOR produces a feedback inhibition of PI3K, which may contribute to insulin resistance in certain contexts of overnutrition. What is important to understand is that mTOR can "fully supplant" PI3K downstream effects in a "bad way", so that if you only monitor PI3K activity, you may "miss" the "bad news" that mTOR is going to put on your doorstep.
