What is amazing about this study is even though the obese rats starting slimming down, when administered growth hormone (another name for "somatotropin"), their lifespan DECREASED. 
Heh, one molecular biology "answer" to this might be that the overnutrition of the obese rats allowed the IGF-1 to become elevated upon administration of the GH, which "fried" the poor guys.
