This was in JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association, so I am sure that it will be fodder for coffee talk among the disappointingly modest amount of clinicans that actually care passionately about every page of this periodical extolling the latest theories being bandied about in academia. The findings contained within are actually somewhat modest, but, for better or for worse, many of the same changes seen in lower organisms under CR are seen in human CR.

There was a "liquid crash diet" group in addition to the fruits and vegetables group, and its body temperature was not lower, surprisingly. This could indicate that a "slow and steady" approach is better than simply "starving" yourself for weeks. This situation may have particular importance for those that are "already fat, and want to change". If the experience with gastric bypass is any indication, you don't necessarily have to be "thin" to start accruing benefits, so it may counterproductive to try and "race to thinness"! Your body makes "healthy compensations" right out of the starting gate when you start reducing food intake, and that is all you really need to shoot for.

All that said, there is still much to learn about how humans respond to reductions in food intake!
