I thought this study was interesting, although there are a lot of variables in play.
What they found was that low zinc seems to exacerbate the accumulation of the toxic metal lead in the bones of rats. And while supplemental zinc seemed to fight this process, it produced a reduction in bone mineral density.
While it is perhaps not an "airtight" indictment of zinc supplementation, it does give pause to the unbridled enthusiasm that circulates around this metal.
