Interesting article from the popular press, but the results will be published in the Journal of Reproductive Medicine.

In any case, reproductive function is intimately tied to hormone levels, and it is interesting that dairy is thought to increase IGF-1 levels. What is even more interesting is that I have read just about every mechanism in the book as to why this is.

Some want to emphasize that hormones used to dope up the bovines reach us directly when we consume the dairy and meats.

I think that people are quick to disregard the fact that a diet rich in essential amino acids promotes elevations of endogenous hormones. In other words, diets rich in animal proteins provide a rich source of raw material for your own hormone production.

Additionally, dairy is distinctively rich in branched-chain amino acids, like leucine, that have profound endocrinological effects in and of themselves.

In any case, I am a believer that you shouldn't give the body everything it needs at one time.

Although the exact reason is obscure, vegan women apparently have a 13 percent lower level of serum IGF-1, as compared to women who consume dairy, according to this particular data set.

In scientific terms, I consider this serological data point to be only the "tip of the iceberg" of a whole universe of endocrinological complexity that lay underneath, including IGFBP-3 and IGFBP-1 dynamics, but, for what it is worth, I consider this information provocative.
