There is accumulating evidence that vitamin E, in excess, can be very bad.
Vitamin C, being water-soluble, may be less toxic, but concerns are present regarding its overuse as well.
In any case, these recent findings show how regulation of the arteries becomes impaired in a situation of chronic C and E overload.

| "These findings suggest that long-term experimental antioxidant vitamin supplementation in normal pigs impairs myocardial perfusion and coronary endothelial function via an increased level of oxidative stress in the arterial wall, which may be partly related to the uncoupling of endothelial nitric oxide synthase and/or the direct prooxidant effect of vitamin radicals." - Hypertension., Published online before print January 30, 2006 ;47:475 |
